Spectacle is a group of artists who wish to use technology to enhance visual art. For the group’s debut show Nothing Is What It Seems, Spectacle used Augmented Reality, which allows an artist to overlay extra content on their artwork when scanned in a smart device. Unlike virtual reality, which is a more immersive technology requiring extra hardware such as a headset, AR can be used by simply downloading an app on your smart device.
Artists in the group are
John Kowalczyk, Jeff Redmon, Anja Notanja Sieger, Dena Nord, and Bass Structures.
The artists work closely with design agency
Odvant Creative to create the AR experiences.
John Korom, the owner of Gallery 2622, generously
donated the exhibition space for their first show.
